Jermain Taylor ready to take on undefeated Caleb Truax in a non-title 10-round bout – Boxing news
Jermain Taylor, the former WBC and WBO middleweight champion, is ready to make a comeback after the lapse of four months against his fellow countryman Caleb Truax, the current World Boxing Foundation International super middleweight champion, in a 10-round
non-title bout on April 20, 2012.
The above bout will headline the event organised and promoted by the duo of Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions. The ring for the Friday night event will be stretched at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino situated
in Biloxi, Mississippi, United States and the pay-per-view will be televised on Showtime’s weekly boxing show.
The epic pay-per-view will be co-headlined by the 10-round non-title clash between Erislandy Lara and Ronald Hearns. Taylor, 33, has been in a total 34 bouts and emerged victorious in 29. He has nailed 18 of his opponents by knockout and has proudly held
various titles round his waist other than the WBO and WBC middleweight.
After the Arthur Abraham loss, his career’s fourth loss, the American proud went out of the ring for almost two years and did not return since he was undergoing stress management sessions as the four losses, one after another, troubled and demoralised Jermain
seriously.
The former IBF and WBA super world middleweight champion returned to the ring anew recently against Jessie Nicklow and collected an impressive eighth round knockout win. This will be the WBC Continental Americas middleweight champion’s second bout after
the comeback.
His Friday night opponent, Caleb resides bit above the Taylor and boasts an intimidating undefeated win streak in a total 19 bouts. He has collected just one draw decision in his career against Phil Williams.
The duo recently met at the pre-bout press conference and shared their views about the upcoming bout. Taylor remarked, “I just want to say thank you to my team. I’m back in love with boxing. After losing in Berlin, I took two years off. They were the best
two years of my life, because I’m hungry again. This is the only sport where you can lose, get knocked out, look bad and then fight your way back to the top. You can get down real low and you can still come back and be on top. I’m on my way back.”
Caleb, well known as the ‘Golden’, commented, “I’ve prepared for the man that beat Bernard Hopkins but we’ll see where Jermain’s at tomorrow. I think he might be on the decline but that’s not who I prepared for so I’m ready.”
The odds are slightly in favour of the former champion as he has achieved some extraordinary feats during his prime era and if he is able to gift Caleb his career’s first defeat, it will definitely help him move up in the rankings substantially.
