A depressing summer for the English national team striker came to an end with the start of the English Premier League campaign with Tottenham Hotspur as Defoe admits that football has been his refuge from troubles with his
father’s health...
The summer that recently concluded with the resumption of Premier League football was not a very happy one for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749’s striker Jermaine Defoe. The former West Ham United forward had to deal with several family issues which occupied
most of his time.
At first, Defoe had to deal with his father’s deteriorating health due to cancer which eventually resulted in his death. Defoe spent a lot of time with his father at the hospital which made things difficult for them as the cancer
proceeded faster than expected to take over his father’s body.
After his father’s expiration, Defoe had to face another family tragedy as a freak accident led to his cousin Hannah’s death in a swimming pool via electrocution. In short it wasn’t a happy summer for the Tottenham target-man who
was England compete at the European Championships from the sidelines as the Three Lions were knocked out of the European Championships at the quarterfinal stage after their penalty shootout defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926.
Defoe is now looking forward to the new league season with Tottenham, a club that had an uncertain summer as well with the departure of the likes of Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart with the arrival of Andre Villas Boas as the new
club manager following Harry Redknapp’s dismissal.
Defoe said, “It has been difficult for me and my family. It has been hard, especially with my dad. From day one, when he was diagnosed, I was with him from the first meeting in the hospital. I am only 29 and to deal with that was
quite difficult.”
He added, "I have always known about cancer but to be around someone who has cancer and to see what it does in such a short space of time was mad. It makes you think about your life. I have got a big family and we have always been
close.”
