Jermaine Jenas regrets that Inter Milan switch never materialized
Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas regrets having missed out on a move to Italian champions Inter Milan.
The two sides meet in the Champions League on Wednesday, 20 October.
Ahead of the White Hart Lane encounter, Jenas, who has played for Tottenham since joining from Newcastle United in 2005, said that he wishes the switch he was rumoured to be making last year would have materialized.
"I am very happy in the Premier League and I like being in London, but Italy had not come into my mind until [Jose] Mourinho started talking," the 27-year-old told
The Evening Standard about the transfer saga.
In January 2009, Mourinho said that his selection of Jenas in the Fantasy Football squad he was asked to put together for the
Daily Telegraph reflected his appreciation of the Englishman's game. Rumours then began circulating the Inter would make a bid for Jenas, but a deal never came to fruition.
"The Jose Mourinho factor was there and a lot of players would love to play for him. At that time, I am not going to say it didn't interest me. It was something that would turn any footballer's head because you want to play in Europe and Inter went on to
win the Champions League."
Has fallen out of favour at Tottenham
Jenas got a chance to play in the Champions League despite missing out on a move to Inter as Harry Redknapp led Tottenham to qualify for the competition after finishing fourth in the league last season.
The two-way midfielder started in Tottenham's opening European fixture against Werder Bremen in September, but has since seen little playing time for Redknapp's team, making only four league appearances this season.
The presence of Luka Modric and the recently acquired Rafael van der Vaart has led to Jenas falling down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.
