Jermaine McGillvary commits himself for five years at Huddersfield Giants
Jermaine McGillvary, the Huddersfield Giants’ winger has sealed a five-year contract deal with his franchise.
By committing himself for the upcoming five years ahead with Giants, he is following the lead of his team-mate Michael Lawrence, who fills in for the centre’s position on the squad. He boasts a splendid record of capping 86 times for the Giants, after making
his debut with the Warrington Warriors in 2007.
Nathan Brown who coaches Giants is pleased with these latest happenings. While speaking about this England Knight’s player, Brown added, “Michael is a local player whose game just keeps improving. Both at centre and in the back row he does a really good
solid job and defensively he is an exceptional player. He is a good lad and a good role model for other young players.”
With McGillvary joining in with Lawrence there are two players who have booked their spot with the Giants until 2016.
McGillvary, inaugurated his first grade game in 2010 when he was taken on board against the Bradford Bulls in the sixteenth round of the Super League XV. McGillvary’s splendid performance during 2011’s season has cemented him as a skilled winger, having
already scored 20 tries in his 30 appearances in the Super League fixtures.
While speaking about this latest development, McGillvary stated, “I'm really pleased to be at my hometown club for hopefully the best years of my career.”
He sounded hopeful of a bright future ahead with his hometown club as he aspires to unwind the best years of his professional playing career with the Giants for at least five more years.
Huddersfield’s director, Richard Thewlis believes that McGillvary is a bit different from the rest as he started playing rugby pretty late, but through his hard work and determination he is the holder of dual registrations; the Super Rugby League regular
and player at the England Knight’s squad.
Thewlis further believes that he acknowledges that there are many clubs who are eyeing McGillvary as they are short on English talent and stated, “We are aware that many eyes are being cast towards our players so for us to keep a local lad like Jermaine
in the claret and gold is wonderful news.”
