Jermichael Finley may be out for the season
The Green Bay Packers got some bad news, as star tight end Jermichael Finley may miss the rest of the season. Finley injured his knee during the Packers’ Week 5 loss to the Washington Redskins and underwent surgery. Early reports had said that Finley avoided
a tear in his knee, but the surgery revealed more damage than was initially reported. Finley was initially expected to miss about three weeks. If he does come back this season, it won’t be for a while.
The injury is now being reported as a torn meniscus. That means a long recovery time and it will be a challenge for Finley to be able to return this season.
Coach Mike McCarthy said that while Finley has not been placed on injured reserve yet, that is a possibility. Placing him on IR would end his season, but the Packers will likely wait another week to decide. The earliest that Finley could be back is in eight
to 10 weeks. However according to an NFL source, Finley has been telling teammates that his season is over.
Finley has been having a great season, with 21 catches for 301 yards and a touchdown. He and Rodgers have great chemistry and Finley looks more like a receiver than he does a tight end.
The injury is a huge blow to a Packers team that is already banged up. Other key injuries include Aaron Rodgers (concussion), Clay Matthews (hamstring) and second-string tight end Donald Lee (chest). All of them have not practiced and likely won’t be ready
to go for their Week six game against the Miami Dolphins. The Packers already have lost running back Ryan Grant and linebacker Nick Barnett for the season. With expectations so high in Green Bay, you have to wonder how the Packers will be able to pull it off
dealing with so many key injuries.
