Jerome Bettis says Bill Cowher not making moves for coaching role – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers' former running back Jerome Bettis has seconded the Bill Cowher’s earlier explanation that he was not returning to the game American football again in the role of a coach.
Bill Cowher is former coach of Pittsburgh Steelers and had also coached Jerome Bettis during his stay with the team as a player from 1996-2005.
Recently, reports have emerged that the Cowher had been contacted by a couple of teams including Miami to seek his return to the game for coaching their side.
He has denied these claims altogether saying that he had not been approached by any side or organization. He added that he himself was not in contact of any one for such a role.
Backing his comments, Bettis, this week in 'The Rich Eisen Podcast' said that he did not see Cowher making such a move. "I don't see him coaching for a while," Bettis said. He however added that he believed that he (Cowher) might
do so if the teams like Eagles were an option for him.
"It would have to be farfetched -- and this would never happen -- it would have to (be) something like Andy Reid gets fired or something crazy," Bettis said. "Something to that degree. ... That's the type of scenario that Coach
Cowher would have to really give some thought, because now you're not coming in coaching a last-place team. You've got a quality football team that needs direction and understanding."
The former coach, who now works as CBS Sports Analyst, has himself denied such reports. He said last week that he had not been contacted by any one directly or indirectly.
He further disclosed that he had planned to be with the CBS network in his current position in the coming year, 2012. He said he was not wishing to reach out for any time for such a role, either.
About the prospects for joining Miami as coach, he said that their current coach Tony Sparano was doing fine job, and he hoped that Tony would win this season and stay as a coach.
William Laird 'Bill' Cowher is a former American Football player and coach. He had been with Pittsburgh Steelers for 15 consecutive seasons before announcing retirement.
