Jerome Boateng easing into the Premier League
Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng has said he is happy to finally be settling in the Premier League after a slow start to his career at the club.
After a strong performance in the World Cup, where Boateng started five games for Joachim Low's national team, City boss Roberto Mancini made the towering 22-year-old one of his defensive reinforcements ahead of the current season.
After suffering from a knee injury at the start of City's league campaign, Boateng made his debut for Mancini against Chelsea on 25 September. He has now made seven consecutive league starts for Mancini.
"For every player it is disappointing when you come to a new club and are injured for six or seven games," the German told
Eurosport about the early stages of his Premier League career. "You look forward but you can't play and other people are coming in. It was frustrating. But now I am happy to be in my normal rhythm of playing every three days."
Premiership quicker than the Bundesliga
Boateng, who made 75 league appearances for Hamburger SV between 2007 and 2010, has managed to adapt successfully to the English game.
The defender said the main difference to the Bundesliga has been the pace of play in England, adding that he is unfazed by playing for a club with top-four ambitions.
"The Premier League is quicker and harder. You must run forward and back all the time. It is tough. But it is good. I made the decision to come to Manchester City and I am happy with it. I hope I can play a few more games but I don't feel there is any particular
pressure on me to perform."
City are currently third in the Premier League with 25 points from 13 games. The team's next league fixture comes against Fulham on Sunday 21 November.
