The former Manchester City defender is delighted with his side’s current form and has hailed the team’s display against Schalke.
The Bavarian giants got the better of Schalke in their recent Bundesliga clash at the Allianz Arena. The hosts won with a 2-0 score-line courtesy a brace from Franck Ribery. The win took Bayern to the second spot on the Bundesliga
standings table, four points behind leaders, Borussia Dortmund.
Boateng claimed that Bayern’s performance against Schalke was in complete contrast to the display against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079 in mid-week when they lost 1-0. The defender admitted that his side did not play well against the Swiss team in
the UEFA Champions League knock-out stage but is delighted that the Bavarians put in an improved performance against their rivals, Schalke.
The former Hamburg player added that a team cannot always play well and there are phases when a side loses confidence and results are unfortunate. He insisted that Bayern have come back strongly after a below par second-half of
the season and remained hopeful that the results continue to come.
“It was a completely different game to the one against Basel. We finally played as a team. The loss in Basel was very unfortunate. Of course we did not play well, but we did not deserve to be defeated. You cannot play spectacularly
all the time, it is only natural,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to Goal.com.
Boateng admitted that the victory against Schalke could be the turning point in Bayern Munich’s season. He stressed that the team cannot afford to drop any more points as Borussia Dortmund already have a healthy lead at the top.
“The victory against Schalke is a good sign. We must not think that everything will run smoothly by itself in the following games. We must work hard, and if we do then anything is possible,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich will play their next game against Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena on Saturday, March 3. The visitors will be looking to secure all three points as a loss could extend Dortmund’s lead up to seven points.
