The Bayern Munich defender vows not to play on the right side of defence again after recent criticism from Franz Beckenbauer.
Jerome Boateng has expressed his desire to play in the centre of defence following the criticism after the 3-1 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, January 20. The defender partnered Arjen Robben on the right hand side,
but failed to make any kind of impact as Bayern conceded two goals inside the first 45 minutes.
Boateng kept on passing the ball in the opposite direction which became a source of frustration for the Dutch winger, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521. The sweeper was later replaced by Rafinha, who seemed a perfect match for Robben, and is certain
to partner him on the right wing for the future games.
The former Manchester City man mentioned that he did not opt himself to play on the right side, but it was his manager’s order to play behind Robben. He added that he is not a natural full-back, and Rafinha could have been a much
better choice.
While talking to sports website, Goal.com, the 23-year-old further elaborated:
"It wasn't my choice to play right-back. Rafinha could have played there. I think that [Arjen Robben and me] will no longer play together on the wing."
Boateng added that Bayern can also use Breno as a right-back in the future games as the Brazilian has been doing well since his release from prison.
"We also have http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Breno-c8038. He's at the point where he could jump in if there is an emergency," the defender stated.
While commenting on his team’s loss to Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, Boateng opined that the Reds need to stay active on the pitch, and the forward line must show more determination. After the defeat, Bayern remained on top
of the league standings, but only due to a superior goal difference from Borussia Dortmund and Schalke
"With a deficit we must more aggressively pressure the goal," Boateng concluded.
The sweeper made his way to Allianz-Arena in the summer transfer window last year and so far has 12 league appearances under his belt. It will be interesting to see whether Boateng is retained as the right-back or plays in the
central defence when Bayern next take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881 on Saturday, January 28.
