Jerome Kaino grabs Kelvin R Tremain Memorial Player of the Year award - Rugby
Jerome Kaino, the flanker for All Blacks has secured the Kelvin R Tremain Memorial Player of the Year award in a ceremony held on November 30. Rugby World Cup winning coach, Graham Henry, was also given the New Zealand Rugby
Union Coach of the Year award for his tremendous services for the country during the current year. Among the other notable winners, Piri Weepu got the accolade of Tom French Memorial Maori and Aaron Cruden ITM Cup player of the Year. Bryce Lawrence, who fell
into controversy with the Boks team during RWC, was judged as the best referee of NZRU.
The chairman of the NZRU Mike Eagle congratulated the award winners for their excellent works during the whole year. Talking to the media after the ceremony Mike Eagle said that, “In hosting 2011 Rugby World Cup we took major
steps toward rugby's vision to inspire and unify New Zealanders. There were many challenges this year, but I am proud to say that we met every one of them head on, and the high standard of nominations and excellence of our winners tonight are evidence of the
wonderful success rugby has enjoyed.”
