Jerome Taylor justifies playing in the IPL instead of his national side
The West Indian pacer, Jerome Taylor, has come up to justify his decision to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after Michael Holding questioned his absence from the home series against Pakistan.
In his recent interview to media, he has lashed out at the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for not contacting him about his injury and intention to rejoin the national squad.
Taylor has been out of the team since June of 2010 due to injuries. He could not even play in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 but had recovered before the Pakistan-West Indies series began.
According to him, since the board did not contact him, he went on to join the Pune Warriors franchise in the Indian Premier League.
Taylor told the media, “I was not sure I was going to be selected, so I had to keep my options open. It was a case where I did not want to be at home waiting to be selected, not get picked and let this opportunity pass me for the third year in a row.”
As Taylor could not play the last two IPL editions he did not want to miss the opportunity once again.
Since his International debut in 2003, Taylor has been plagued with injuries but the speedster believes that he is still capable to deliver with the ball. He shared, “I am still aspiring to lead the West Indies attack.”
Taylor had to clarify his stance after Holding’s commented on his absence from a Pakistan-West Indies match.
