Lotus reserve driver Jerome d’Ambrosio has said that he is still trying to secure a race seat for 2013 Formula 1 season, but insisted that it is not easy as the competition is very tough.
D’Ambrosio made his debut in the sport with Marussia last year. However, he could not keep his race seat for 2012.
Lotus signed the Belgian in this season as their test driver. Moreover, he took part in the Italian Grand Prix and replaced Romain Grosjean who served one-race ban because of causing an accident in the Belgian GP due to which Lewis Hamilton of McLaren, Sergio
Perez of Sauber and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari had to face retirement.
Although, the 26-year-old could not score any points for the Enstone based team, nonetheless, he performed convincingly well and received a lot appreciation.
At present, he is looking forward to secure a race seat for the next season. He has said that even though nothing has been finalised yet, but he is still trying hard to make his way to the grid in the coming year.
“Not everything is confirmed yet. We're still working on it,” he told AUTOSPORT. “It's tough. We'll see what happens. Time will tell.”
However, he expressed that it is extremely difficult to secure a race seat in F1 as there is a very tough competition amongst the drivers.
“It's very difficult. There are a lot of drivers out there without seats. Some experienced ones, some less experienced ones,” he said.
Besides, he said that he earnestly wants to stay in the sport and is aiming to deliver his best in the future so as to make his position stronger as a race driver.
“All I can say is that I really love F1, I loved being on the grid last year even if it was not in a top car. I enjoyed being in the car at Monza very much. It's what I love to do and I will fight to stay in Formula 1 as long as I can,” he added.
Additionally, he said that he will look for other options only if he doesn’t get a chance to remain in F1.
