Jerome d’Ambrosio to use a new chassis for rest of the weekend in Canada – Formula 1 news
Virgin Racing Team driver Jerome d’Ambrosio crashed his car during the second free practice session of the 2011 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix as a result of which, he is expected to use a completely new chassis for the rest of the weekend since his damaged
car is beyond repair.
The young driver was unable to control his car at the exit of turn four. Due to that, his car hit the outside barriers and suffered a lot of damage which the mechanics claim is not repairable.
As a result, the team will now have to work overtime in order to build a new car for d’Ambrosio in order to enable him to take part in this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix. The Virgin Racing Team driver was unharmed but the team principal John Booth admitted
that this weekend has not started on the right foot for the team.
“It has been a particularly tough start to our weekend in Montreal and as a consequence the mechanics and engineers have a long evening ahead of them to get us back on track. Unfortunately Jerome’s crash is going to require a chassis change due to extensive
damage to the nose fixings and this is a big job that will take us late into the night,” team principal John Booth said.
Jerome admitted that the accident was his fault and took full responsibility for it adding that the two Friday practice sessions were going pretty good for Virgin Racing Team until the incident.
“I had a good feeling with the car and I really enjoy driving here. But then I made a mistake in turn three, which pushed me wide on to the kerb at turn four. I couldn't turn in and so I ended up hitting the wall,” said d’Ambrosio.
He added that it is a shame that the day ended in such a disastrous way for the team but claimed that the car is working very well on the Gilles-Villeneuve Circuit. He said they have a good chance of bouncing back on Saturday.
Let’s see if d’Ambrosio and Virgin manage to impress in the qualifiers and race day in Montreal.
