Jerope Mercado to face Rolly Matsushita for vacant OPBF title – Boxing news
The professional boxing organization, Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation has said that the native of Philippines Jerope Mercado, who fights under the name of Zerofit Jerope Zuiyama, has been set to face another bantamweight contender of his country,
Rolly Matsushita in a 12-round vacant OPBF Bantamweight championship bout on July 31, 2011 at the Sambo Hall in Hyogo, Japan.
The title was vacated by Malcolm Alindajao Tunacao, who is currently the Southpaw professional boxer in the Flyweight division. Malcolm Tunacao won the OPBF Bantamweight title fighting against Kohei Oba at the International Conference Hall in 2010 in Japan.
However, the reason of why Tunacao wants to vacate his 188-pound belt was not disclosed by OPBF.
The 27-year-old, Orthodox stance Matsushita has been an outstanding contender since his debut in professional boxing. Matsushita fought 37 of his total fights of which he won 28 competitive bouts including 16 knockout victories with eight considerable losses
and one draw in his professional career.
Matsushita is coming to the ring after couple of his good knockout victories. He won a first round technical knockout decision fighting against Pramod Sor Vorapin in 2010 in Japan. In his last fight, Matsushita claimed a fifth round knockout decision over
Rasmanudin on April 24, 2011 at the Sangyo Hall in Kanazawa, Japan.
The 31-year-old, Orthodox stance Mercado is now coming to the ring against Matsushita after winning four of his consecutive fights. Zerofit ‘Nino de Oro’ Zuiyama went against 27 opponents in his professional career. He claimed 23 bouts and faced one loss
and 3 draws in his career.
Mercado won the first-ever bout of his professional career fighting against Allan Jay Tuniacao at the Zuiyama in Cebu, Philippines in 2005. He fought most of his fights in Philippines and Japan. However, the only one competition in South Africa against Vusi
Malinga resulted in a points draw. Eden Sonsona was the only person to win the technical knockout decision against Mercado.
Hopefully, the fight between these two fighters will be interesting and exciting to watch.
