Jerricho Cotchery suffers groin tear
The New York Jets could be without one of their top receivers, Jerricho Cotchery, for their upcoming game against the Houston Texans. Cotchery reportedly suffered a slight groin tear on his left side during the Jets overtime win over the Cleveland Browns
on Sunday 14 November.
Doctors have not indicated whether or not Cotchery will need surgery to repair the damage, nor have they officially ruled him out of Sunday's game.
Cotchery himself has admitted that he is a quick healer. "They're just going to see how I respond to treatment, so we're going to take it on a day-to-day basis, see and go from there. I'll be living in the treatment room for a while, all of this week. Hopefully,
my body responds well to it."
Cotchery pulled up with the injury during the Jets first possession of the overtime period. Quarterback Mark Sanchez had run out of the pocket scrambling to find a receiver and, though he was injured, Cotchery still made an unbelievable diving catch to keep
the Jets drive alive.
"I was hobbling around out there and just saw Mark scramble out of the pocket and I was like, 'Don't look at me!' but he did," Cotchery said about the play. "He told me to slide the other way, and I'm like, 'I can't.' "
"It's impossible," coach Rex Ryan said about Cotchery's effort on the play. "I don't know how he did it. It's crazy, but, man, you talk about playing like a Jet. It's just an amazing thing."
Ryan was optimistic about Cotchery's condition, but wouldn't confirm whether or not he expected Cotchery to be in the lineup for the Jets next game. "We'll see how the week plays out, but I'm not going to say he's definitely out."
Ryan did feel confident that Sanchez, who was hampered by a calf injury during the game, would be fine and available when the Jets take on the Texans on Sunday 21 November.
