Jerricho Cotchery won't play this Sunday against the Houston Texans
New York Jets’ wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery will not play this Sunday because of a tear in his left groin muscle. Cotchery missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, and hopes to be back in action next
Sunday.
He did some light jogging on Thursday, but none of his normal positional work.
“That's the final exam,” said Cotchery. “You've got to be able to do some position stuff before you go out there on Sunday. You can't go from light jogging to on the field Sunday. I've been doing a lot
of work in the training room as far as leg stretching and exercises and all of those things, just getting the strength back up, trying to build everyday.”
The Jets are now mulling over signing a wide receiver from the practice squad, Patrick Turner, to fill the gap.
“If the opportunity comes open I'll be ready,” Turner said.
So far this season Cotchery has 315 receiving yards on 29 catches, he also has two touchdowns. He is fourth on the team in reception yards and tied for third with Braylon Edwards in catches.
He’s also been working hard to get back into the lineup, but there is concern he might miss next week’s game as well.
“I'm not going to pressure the coaches with that,” Cotchery said. “I'm going to let the coaches decide. I'm just going to continue to work hard...and let the training staff give the feedback to the coaches.”
The Jets have struggled this season in their passing game. They rank 20th in the NFL with an average of 211.3 yards per game. This Sunday the Houston Texans come to New Meadowlands Stadium with
the worst passing defence in the league, something the Jets will look to take advantage of without one of their starting wide receivers.
