Jerry Belmontes makes comeback to defend his streak against Ramesis Gil – Boxing News
Jerry Belmontes, the undefeated surging American super featherweight, will return to the ring after a long break of almost nine months against an almost equal opponent, the Dominican Ramesis Gil, in an eight-round bout on May 19, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Convention Center situated in Pharr, Texas, United States and the above bout will co-headline the Saturday night show. The event will be headlined by the championship bout between returning Odlanier Solis and Konstantin
Airich.
During a recent press conference called on by Kathy Duva of Main Events, the news for a pay-per-view to be televised on TeleFutura was announced along with the main event and the co-main event bouts.
In the gathering, Solis and Jerry shared their views about getting a slot on an epic pay-per-view. Jerry, 23, has been in a total 15 bouts and boasts an undefeated win streak. He has nailed only five opponents by knockout and is considered as a future featherweight
prospect.
Also known as ‘The Corpus Christi Kid’, Jerry last collided with Justo Vallecillo in a six-round bout and collected a unanimous decision in his favour. His opponent, Ramesis, has also been in a total 15 bouts and emerged victorious in just seven. He has
nailed five of his opponent by knockout and has tarnished his resume by three losses.
Gil, 29, has also collected five draw decisions. A keener look at his resume shows that he is going through a tough time and was able to collect just one win in last five bouts. Even in his last bout against Luis Joel Gonzalez, Gil collected a close unanimous
decision in his favour despite the fact that Joel was a complete rookie.
The only facet that gives Gil an upper hand over Jerry is his knockout proficiency. He has nailed five opponents via knockout and in just seven bouts as compared to Jerry’s five knockouts in a total 15 wins.
Jerry excited at the return to his beloved sport said, “Words can’t explain how excited I am to get back in the ring. Of course I was not planning on a 11-month layoff but I’m glad that its behind me. I’m overjoyed to be a part of this prestigious promotional
company (Main Events). Needless to say, LET’S GET IT ON!”
The Corpus kid added that he is enthusiastic to kick of his training camp with Derrick James. Jerry commented, “Looking forward to training camp in Dallas and learning as much as possible from my new trainer Derrick James. Tune in on May 19th… I’m back.”
Jerry and Gil both are equal calibre pugilists and will definitely put up a great show since the American Jerry will be defending his long win streak and Gil needs to make a comeback. At the moment, the odds are in favour of Jerry who has a somewhat better
resume as compared to Gil.
