Jerry Belmontes signs with manager Cameron Dunkin – Boxing news
The undefeated super featherweight prospect Jerry Belmontes has signed an agreement with manager Cameron Dunkin to help guide his career towards a world championship.
The Corpus Christi Kid, Belmontes, has a perfect record of 14-0 with five knockouts and now he has his eyes up on the world championship.
“I am excited to be working with Cameron Dunkin,” said the undefeated Belmontes. “He works with nothing but the best and his knowledge will help me get to where I want to be and that is knocking on the door of a world championship. To be included with his
stable of fighters which includes Timothy Bradley, Nonito Donaire and Kelly Pavlik just to name a few of the countless world champions that Cameron has been a part of just gives me more confidence that I can be there too.”
The 22-year-old from United States, Belmontes, impressively won regional Golden Gloves, State Golden Gloves and under-19 tournament before he turned professional in 2008. His strong performances came at the 2008 United States Championships and 2008 USA World
Championships where he reached the quarter-final and the final respectively. He was also dominant in the 2008 Olympic team, as he was a semi-finalist to qualify for the event.
Dunkin was also very excited about his future prospect and he told the media, “Jerry is a great kid and was a terrific amateur.”
The powerful manager believes that Belmontes by compiling a 14-0 record has shown everyone that he has all the makings of a bright future. He also added that he will look to get him into the right fights, which will surely help the lad on his way to the
world championship.
Belmontes, who is co-managed by Adrian Clark, upon turning professional, registered a first round stoppage win over the undefeated Olvin Mejia (3-0-1). He also came off a fourth round stoppage over Eddie Eamirez (5-4-1) on December 10, 2010 in his hometown
Texas.
Let’s see if Jerry ‘The Kid’ Belmontes can really engrave his name in a world championship.
