Jerry Colangelo wants Mike Krzyzewski back for 2016 Olympic games – NBA News
Even though Team U.S.A head coach Mike Krzyzewski has said that this may be his last outing as coach of the national team, U.S.A Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo has said that he would love to see the celebrated coach return
for a 2016 run, and will talk to him about the offer after the Olympics are done.
"I know what he's said so far and that may be the case and maybe not. And I'm kind of thinking that he's probably not going to come back unless he changes his mind,” said Colangelo.
"We'll have pizza and wine again. We'll see if it works a second time,” added Colangelo.
The 65 year old Coach has been with the U.S national team in different capacities since 1979, and was the head coach when the U.S team won gold at the Beijing Olympics.
After the Olympics, Colangelo convinced Krzyzewski to return for another run over pizza and a bottle of wine. This time around though, Krzyzewski feels it is now time to bring an end to his extensive international coaching career.
Colangelo also said that he was looking forward to retaining Krzyzewski in some capacity even if he decides to call it a day with respect to coaching the national team.
Krzyzewski is credited with returning basketball glory to the U.S team, after they failed to win gold medal at the 2004 Olympics.
"If he's finished coaching, I'm going to keep him involved and he's going to be right alongside me. That's the way I see it and then we'll talk about who's next,” said Colangelo.
Colangelo took over the reins of U.S.A Basketball in 2005 and quickly hired Krzyzewski to be the head coach, a decision that has proven to be the right one over the years.
Colangelo has already said that he intends to return to his position after the Olympics, and would love to have the 4 time national championship winning coach from Duke.
Krzyzewski, on the other hand, has his plate full with the Olympics underway and says that he will consider the option after his team has clinched another gold medal. That is his only aim for the time being and he is fully focused
towards that.
