Collins Hopes to be Fit
Jerry Collins of Ospreys says he is on target and hoping to be fit by the time the new Magners League starts.
The back row player has been out of the game for a relatively long time as he has had surgery on both his shoulder area and his knees. This has meant a long rehabilitation but he says he hopes to be fit for a very important Ospreys season.
If everything is on course, there are many reasons for Ospreys fans to be optimistic. Collins is such an influential player in the team. He commands such a presence and respect, and the side knows they stand a better chance with him than without him.
However, it is very important that he does not try and rush back into the game. Surgery to two parts of the body can be very stressful and cause a great deal of pressure on the body. If Collins tries to play before he is fully fit then it could mean he makes the injuries worse and it could well mean the end of his career.
Positives
Let's be positive and say that Collins is going to race back to full fitness for his Welsh side. It will mean a great deal to everyone at the club and it will give them a much better chance of starting the season well. This is exactly what the side need to do if they are going to have any chance of winning the league next year.
Collins is an extremely intimidating player and it will strike fear into many opposition sides if they see this huge figure standing in the back row of the Ospreys team. This will put opposition attacks onto the back foot a little early during games, which will allow Ospreys to soak up pressure.
Collins can play the game very well. He has experience playing at the very highest levels in international and domestic rugby. This allows him to read the game and he can use his huge frame to get across and block out the opposition in key defensive areas, which will stop his team from conceding.
Risks
There are a few ways that the player and the club could go with this injury rehabilitation. The player will just want to play for his club and this is where the biggest risk factor comes in. It could mean making the injury worse if the club throws him into a game before he is ready to play again.
The shoulders and knees often have the greatest amounts of pressure and stress going through them during a rugby game. Therefore, it is no surprise that these are the areas of Collins' body that needed treatment. They have to be in absolutely perfect condition before he gets back onto a competitive rugby field.
Betting Advice
Ospreys are one of the stronger clubs in the Magners League so if you fancy them to lift the title next year then look around for the best odds and take the bet. There is no doubt that Collins will add to their chances but the point is that he could well get injured again.
Therefore, keep an eye on the main replacement in his position who may be called upon. This player will be chomping at the bit for the chance and is likely to do everything possible to keep Collins out of the team. Also read into the statistics, which will give you a much more accurate idea of who is going to score all of the points in the Ospreys side.
