Jerry Hairston slated to start in Game 3 for Milwaukee Brewers – MLB Playoffs
The Milwaukee Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke has named Jerry Hairston to start in Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks to be played on Tuesday, October 4.
The post-season game is of huge importance given the fact that it will be their first game not being played on their home ground.
The Brewers have so far met not much of resistance in Game 1 and 2 of the NLDS. Winning the first 4-1 and second 9-4, there apparently is no big challenge to their ascendancy in the Series.
Nonetheless, the Brewers are strategising a workable plan to get on Arizona. Bringing Jerry Hairston is part of the strategy to deal with the Diamondbacks. Having six at-bats, Hairston so far has three hits in the two post-season games.
Given the fact that the Brewers are in possession of players like Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun, Hairston becomes an added feature in their ever growing and strengthening offence. Initially, Roenicke intended to bring Casey McGehee, but then it was Hairston
who got the chance.
"We'll see how game to game goes," Roenicke said. "I like having Casey on the bench. It's not necessarily good for Casey, because I'm sure he'd like to be starting, but I feel real comfortable with him on the bench.”
There is obviously a reason for it. “He's a guy that I think is going to put the ball in play and I think he knows what happens in different situations that he's up there, especially with people in scoring position,” Roenicke said.
A look at the regular season that he had this year shows Hairston played an excellent season. Featuring in 120 games, he scored a total of 43 runs, having had 91 hits and 31 RBIs to have an average of .270 throughout the season.
All the same, his last two post-season games have an average of .500 with hits in six at-bats. As Hairston continues to play well, it will be equally interesting to see how he puts his team on the winning track in the Game 3.
