Question:

Jerry Manuel, the Mets Manager should've let Johan Santana try to pitch the 9th inning last night, he had?

only pitched 105 pitches, which isn't his limit. Billy Wagner was unavailable last night for the Mets. Instead, Manuel handed it to his bullpen, and the Phillies scored 6 runs in the 9th and beat the Mets. Don't you think Santana should've at least started the 9th Inning with a 5-2 lead?

  1. Oh boy!!

Nothing beats hindsight. What a question?

Ok, so Santana comes out to pitch the ninth and gets two tough outs, (a tough out is a nine or ten pitch out) and then, worst case scenario, blows out his arm or elbow or shoulder.

Or, second worst scenario, after 20 tough pitches is relieved and the Met's relievers still blow the game.

Or, third worst scenario, Santana is left in to get that final out and then by being completely pooped by all the those previous twenty pitches, gives up two or three consecutive hits and then is relieved and the relievers still blow the win.

Or, fourth worse scenario, Santana gets a third tough out, and wins the game, and then loses his next three or four starts because his arm is still fatigued from that 30 pitch ninth inning.

And YOU thought managing was easy.

The relievers failed to get three outs before six runs scored. THAT is what is pathetic!

  2. Jerry is not to totally blame for this. If Sanchez had come in and shut the Phillies down 1-2-3 like HE SHOULD HAVE, nobody would have had second thoughts about it. I don't think any of us would have predicted that implosion of the bullpen. Although I was mad about it last night after thinking it over it probably was the best decision at the time.

  3. he should have kept him in a little longer but not the whole game but im glad the phills won and his arm would have been rlly sore and he would have been tired and might have lost the game anyway as well

  4. YES That was Very STUPID

  5. No.  He had every right to assume that at least one of his multi-millionaire relievers would be able to hold a 3 run lead.

  6. YES

  7. ha yea he should have left Santana in that would have been the proper move. But, as a phillies fan i was so happy to see him taken out! hah great inning! (for phillies fans)

  8. WELL DUH! I hate it when mamagers do stuff like that

  9. yes, Santana should have pitched the 9th, unless he told Jerry Manuel that he couldnt pitch anymore.

  10. If Wagner was able to pitch then there would be no doubting him pulling out Santana.  He gave up a hit to start the inning and was over 100 pitches.  He hasn't been great this year, and he put people on the bases last night.  Santana hasnt been lights out, pulling him out wasnt a bad decision.  All the blame goes on the mets bullpen.

  11. Yes. this is the biggest mistake that Jerry has made as manager. As of yet, I have a lot of respect for him thought that he always seemed to know what he was doing.

There should have been no question about keeping Johan in. He felt fine, his pitch count was not that high. Is this guy ever gonna get a good game? there is no point protecting a good pitcher from injury if taking him away means a loss.

Of course Jerry had no way of knowing that the Phils would comeback like that, but he does know how they have a record of doing that and that it was a important game. Santana, even if he was very tired could not have possibly been any worse than what went down.

  12. I do, but i'm glad he didn't......Jerry said that he took him out because he allowed the double by Pat Burrell. If he hadn't done that, he would have stayed in...it would have been smart of jerry but of course he didn't know that the bullpen was going to lose the game.

  13. No, 100 pitches is a good count to cut off at.  Don't blame Manuel for the Bull Pen being ineffective, that is the GM's fault.
