Jerry Wales of Queen Mary Sailing Club tops on Day 2 of RS700 National Championships at Weymouth
Queen Mary Sailing Club’s Jerry Wales topped the overall result board of RS700 National Championships on Day 2 at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. Wales set a superb sail after the weather conditions allowed the sailors to push their boats
into the Weymouth waters. From the same club, Stephen Powell finished second overall with just two points behind Wales.
The forecast wasn’t favourable for the races, as the day started with heavy rains and shifty winds across the area. All the sailors had to wait for the day’s races to begin until the clouds cleared for the sun to shine.
As the race started, Wales grabbed an early lead at the fist mark and crossed the finish line successfully followed by Nick Miller to take the second place.
However, Wales couldn’t continue his winning streak in the next race and slipped down at number five while Mike Dencher of Castle Cove took the lead followed by Stephen Powell on second position. After the end of both races of the day, Wales grabbed the
top place with seven points while Powell clinched the number two spot with a two-point difference from Wales, scoring nine points.
The overall standings at the end of Day two are given below:
1. 1000 Jerry Wales, Queen Mary Sailing Club (OCS), 1, 1, 5 = 7 points
2. 780 Stephen Powell, Queen Mary Sailing Club 3, (17), 4, 2 = 9 points
