Everone knows Walcott was 37 when he won the title. Patterson of course is the younger man. I personally believe Walcott would have knocked Floyd out but interested in the opinion of others here.

  1. Walcott had i think 4 or 5 shots at the title before he finally won it, he lost to lesser fighters then Patterson and his only big win is over Ezzard Charles who bested him in their first two fights.

Patterson would have had his way with Walcott, landing the jab, and dropping in bombs like he was hitting a heavy bag. Walcott wouldn't come close enough to Patterson to be effective. Patterson would pitter patter him around the ring and probably earn a late stoppage or Unanimous Decision.

  2. Both Walcott and Patterson were gentleman and true credits to their craft! Both men exemplify the word ROLEMODELS

Floyd Patterson was a consumate pro with very fast hands and a WICKED left hook. I believe that speedy left hook would keep him in the fight by ocassionally stunning Walcott

    HOWEVER

Jersey Joe went to war in LONG FIGHTS with two of the greatest heavyweights ever! Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano.

That fact doesn't bode well for patterson scoring a knockout even with his dandy left hook

SO THEN COULD PATTERSON WIN A DECISION?

Jersey Joe ,among his many fine attributes had great ring generalship. He was a very smart strategist with impressive boxing skills. He also knew how to exploit his opponents weaknesses. Additionally Walcott was an exceptional combination puncher. Most of all he ALWAYS displayed sound fundamentals and didn't make a lot of mistakes

Floyd Patterson had great discipline and could train with the best of them. He always came in to the ring in great shape. His fine physical conditioning and stamina was certainly something to be admired. He was even able to last with Ali despite the anguish of an excruciating back injury!

    BUT

Floyds peek a boo style would have been flawed up against Jersey Joe

Cus d amato trained fighters had very PREDICTIBLE bobs and weaves. Their peek a boo defense left them painfully suseptable to the UPPERCUT. This fighting style also made them flat footed

A sharp, smart, boxer puncher like Joe would have taken advantage of all these defficiancies. He just might come up from UNDERNEATH with the same crushing shot that ended Ezzard Charles title reign.

JERSEY JOE WALCOTT wins by KO in the latter stages of the battle!

    ON A SIDE NOTE

Floyd Patterson deserves all the repect in the world for his integrity in giving SONNY LISTON the title shot he deserved.

Many influential people including Frank Sinatra and President Kennedy did not want to see Sonny get a fair shot. They thought he was BAD FOR BOXING

Floyd showed immense honor and never gave in to the public pressure OR his own fear of Liston.

That nobleity is what being a CHAMPION is all about!

  3. walcott would of destroyed patterson walcott was a tough old man like george foreman he was more of a stylist than foreman but he had one of the best left hooks in heavyweight history he was tough and could take punishment and had heart most fighters he fought he frusterated them by his awkward shuffling style watch him on you tube i predict he would hit patterson on the chin with the left hook between 3 and 5 and it would be lights out for patterson

  4. obviously you meant that WALCOTT had the two shots at louis ect...........its a pity we can't edit the questions like we can the answers......but i digress.......

i think walcott and patterson put up a good show, but i think walcott takes it by boxing smartly and pattesons only chance is to land that leaping left hook, and he had the hand speed to do it, but walcott (even at 37) is the better boxer here and takes the decision

  5. walcott would destroy patterson.patterson had a glass jaw.walcott would have been to fast for him.
