how long is a jersey cow's lactation? number of days.

  1. Jersey cows have been known to continue lactating for 3 years when they have not been bred.

    ROP standards assume that all cows will have a month off before the next calf. Young cows, first lactation, are often dried off 2, even 3 months before delivery. For Jerseys dwindling production will persuade many owners to stop milking 2 months from calving date.

    Now, this does not directly tell us the number of days of lactation, because it is dependent on how long into lactation the cow is bred.

    To get maximum annual production statistics herdsmen may delay breeding for 6 months. But the decision is often driven by what months one needs the milk.


  2. Aim for 55-day dry period for top production. That would give you 310 days of lactation.
