Question:

Jersey size?

I'm planning on buying a jersey sometime soon on ebay (an authentic one in last year's style, not the new RBK Edge ones), but I'm stuck on choosing the right size. I'm about 5 feet, 6 inches and 160 lbs. I've looked at the sizing charts, but I can't be sure without actually trying it on. I'm leaning towards getting an XL, since most of my shirts and sweaters are also XL, but I'm worried that might be a bit too loose for me (I don't want a tight fitting jersey, but I don't want a really baggy jersey either). Should I drop down for a large? Or can I be comfortable sticking with the XL?

  1. Go to NHL.com or Rivercitysports.com; they have size charts on their website for the old style jerseys.  If you know your chest size in inches, you'll be sweet.

Related, If you're buying a pro jersey, the size will be in inches (it'll have the fight strap and be cut to fit over pads), the size will be 48, 52, 54 or 56.   If you're buying a semi-pro/replica, the size range will be either M/L/XL/XXL.

If you're buying a semi-pro jersey, just go based on chest size equivalent.

  2. definately medium or large.  the jersey is probably sized to fit over pads, so it will be bigger than u think.

  3. well im about the same size as you im 5'7 170 pounds and i wear an XL if your looking for an authentic i would go with a 50

  4. i'd go with a large. XL will be too big for you, i think.

  5. I'm about your size, and I got an XL(old style) and it is too big on me. I'd go with the large.

  6. hey man i just got off practice ya id stick with the Xl cuz you will wash it and it will shrink a bit not a size but ya stick with XL

and good choice on jersey :)

  7. if u play hockey get the same size jersey as ur other ones... and if you play hockey with an oversized jersey it looks ugly.... id say large

  8. DONT get an XL!! Im about the same as you except im 5'3 and i got a medium and its huge!!! id go with a large if your that unsure.

  9. as an apparel jersey I too would suggest you get a L, but if at all possible see if any shops in your area have them so you can try it on first (and yes I know ebay tends to have better prices. if you are still not sure, make sure the ebay vendor has a return/exchange policy of sorts)

hey Sharkie510 : try Hockey X-port in Oakland off Hebenburger Road (nr the airport and Oakland Coliseum) - i used to play roller there for Strange Brew and the rink's proshop is sure to have some you can try on. Other stores in the Bay Area/South Bay/Peninsula you can try : Power Play Hockey near the Tank, also East West Hockey in San Mateo, if you go to EWH tell Jason that Marc says Hi.

lol Nikayy .. that reminds me of when, having forgotten an extra shirt I had to wear my goalie jersey after an exhibition game inbetween periods at a CHL game last year. I probably could have snuck a friend's wife in there! (Gabriela is 5'1 and about a size 4)

  10. Hockey jerseys are supposed to be a little big on you, otherwise, you would be wearing a T-shirt/sweatshirt. You will look a bit silly getting a jersey that is tight.  Remember, jerseys are not that breathable.  Better to be a little baggy than too tight.  Like the other guy said, go to your local sport shop and try them on, then go on NHL auctions and see if you can find something that not everyone else has, not to mention at a great pice as well.
