Jerzy Janowicz, Daniel Brands advance to the final qualifier – Bet-At-Home Cup 2011
Jerzy Janowicz beats Josko Topic 6-4, 6-2
Third seed Jerzy Janowicz of Poland outclassed world number 751 Josko Topic of Croatia in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 in the second qualifier at the Bet-At-Home Cup in Kitzbuhel, Austria on Sunday. It took the Polish an hour and seven
minutes to win the match.
Janowicz broke the Croatian in the fifth game of the first set to take a 3-2 lead but he was broken back immediately to level the score at 3-3. However, the Polish broke again in the very next game and this time he did not lose
his serve, serving out the set at 5-4. Janowicz did not serve well as he committed four double faults and delivered just 43 percent of the first serves in the opening set.
The Pole broke Topic in the opening game of the second set but just like the first set he was broken back in the very next game. Janowicz broke again in the third game and consolidated on it to take a 3-1 lead. The 20-year-old
claimed another break of serve in the seventh game and won the set 6-2.
Janowicz will face world number 246 Ivo Klec of Slovakia in the final qualifier.
Daniel Brands defeats Max Raditschnigg 6-4, 6-3
German Daniel Brands, ranked 181st in the world, dismissed world number 593 Max Raditschnigg of Austria in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to move to the final round of the qualifying draw. The match lasted for an hour and nineteen
minutes.
Brands and the Austrian broke each other on a number of occasions in the first set but it was the German who bagged the decisive break of serve in the seventh game and consolidated on it to claim the set 6-4. The six feet and five
inches tall did not give a good service performance, committing a couple of double faults and hitting just 53 percent of the first serves in the first set.
In the second set, the German broke Raditschnigg in the seventh game and held his serve in the next game to take a 5-3 lead. Serving to stay in the set in the ninth game, the Austrian was unable to hold his serve, dropping the
set 3-6. Brands converted two of the seven break points he received on Raditschnigg’s serve in the second set.
The German will play world number 229 Peter Luczak of Australia in the final qualifier. The Australian beat compatriot Colin Ebelthite in the second round of the qualifying draw.
