Jerzy Janowicz, Frederik Nielsen and 10 others graduate from ATP University – Tennis News
Poland’s rising sensation, Jerzy Janowicz, and Frederik Nielsen of Denmark are included in the 12 tennis players, who graduated from the ATP University in London last week.
More than 800 tennis players have graduated through this programme, which tells them almost everything about ATP and how to have a long lasting career. Some of the topics included in the course are giving back, one-on-one media
training, rules and officiating, nutrition and personal finances, marketing the tour.
Not many tennis fans knew Janowicz and Nielsen when they joined this programme but both of them are famous players now. The Polish player came to the limelight more recently than Nielsen.
The 22-year-old entered main draw of the BNP Paribas Masters after coming through the qualifying matches and stunned five top-20 players on his way to reach the title match. He lost to the title leader on the tour, David Ferrer,
but made his mark on everyone.
On the other hand, Nielsen stunned many top doubles team and almost the entire tennis fans, when he captured the Wimbledon double title with his British partner, Jonathan Marray. Marray and Nielsen were only able to take part in
the event through a wild card entry but no one had imagined that they would win the title and be among the top doubles on the ATP World Tour at the end of the season.
Few of the other players, who graduated from the ATP University, talked to reporters on the occasion. Jurgen Zopp said, “I had never heard about the history of the ATP, so that was one of the most interesting topics for me, as
well as how the ATP operates.”
Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic had to say, “I enjoyed learning more about the rules and the relationship between players and the ATP, that the ATP is here for us and by giving our opinions we can make improvements. It’s a valuable program.”
British player, Dominic Inglot added, “Personally I was interested to learn about tournament financing, such as how much tournaments made from sponsors, from ticket sales and the percentage of revenue that goes to players.”
The graduates also watches the watches the final of Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.
