Jerzy Janowicz commits to play at the Heineken Open 2013 – Tennis News
Surprise finalist, Jerzy Janowicz from Poland, confirmed his participation at the Heineken Open 2013, an ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 Series event taking place in Auckland, New Zealand.
The Polish star, who came into the spotlight after securing final berth at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris as a qualifier, has committed his participation at the ASB Tennis Centre.
The director of the Heineken Open, Karl Budge, was excited to announce Janowicz participation at this tournament. He was quoted in a press conference:
"Janowicz has had one of those seasons that most players only dream about. Players outside the top 50 simply don't make the finals of masters level events. You only need to look at how long it took Ferrer to win one to see how treasured they are.”
Currently ranked 26th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Janowicz unleashed flurry of winners at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy. He eased past his opponents to qualify for the main draw at this Masters 1000 event. The
Pole outsmart the German number one Philipp Kohlschreiber, 13th seeded Marin Cilic and the US Open champion Andy Murray to reach quarters. Despite losing the opening round, the Pole bagged a breadstick against eighth seeded Janko Tipsarevic and
set up a date with local challenger Gilles Simon in the final four. He crushed the Frenchman in straight sets and reached the final showdown. Despite bowing out to fourth seed David Ferrer, Janowicz sent warning to the rest of world.
The Spanish number two is the defending champion at this hard court tournament and Janowicz may have a chance to avenge his defeat. The tournament’s director reflected:
"Maybe the Heineken Open will be Janowicz's chance for a rematch with our defending champion."
Last year around this time, Janowicz was lying out of Top 200. However, he displayed brilliant tennis in 2012 season and after cracking Top 100 and Top 50, he entered the Top 30. The Pole conquered four titles on the ATP Challenger Tour and enjoyed a successful
season.
Joining Janowicz are two ATP Top newcomers, Martin Klizan from Slovakia and the Belgian star David Goffin.
