Jerzy Janowicz signs up for Heineken Open 2013 – Tennis News
World number 26, Jerzy Janowicz, was nowhere in the limelight until the start of the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris, where he started the journey from the qualifier round and pulled down the trigger at every opponent; power downed
three seeded players on his way to the grand finale of the 1000-point event. He was just one upset away registering a mammoth victory but couldn’t sideline the in-form world number five, David Ferrer of Spain. He lost the final in straight sets but that is
just the beginning for a whole new era for the 22-year-old Pole.
Janowicz has been signed by the Heineken Open tournament officials for the next edition of the event that will take place in January, 2013. It will be a different start to the season for the Pole superstar who played two six Challengers
before capturing the attention of the Open Sabadell Atlantico officials who allowed him to contest in the qualifiers at Barcelona. A major leap for the Pole will bring him a participation in the big four tournaments starting from the Australian Open in January.
It is going to be a dream start for the 22-year-old youngster who wouldn’t have thought of breaking into the Top-30 category, at least in 2012.
The Tournament Director, Karl Budge, was ecstatic to have the surprise finalist from this year’s Masters Event in the draw for the next edition of the Heineken Open. He said, “Janowicz has had one of those seasons that most players
only dream about. Players outside the top 50 simply don't make the finals of Masters level events. You only need to look at how long it took Ferrer to win one to see how treasured they are. Maybe the Heineken Open will be Janowicz's chance for a rematch with
our defending champion.”
Ferrer who defeated Janowicz in the final of the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris will be the top seed contestant as well as the Defending Champion at Heineken Open. Let’s hope the two players enjoy a similar run at Auckland as well.
