Jesper Dahlstrom wins first stage of 2011 Glava Tour of Norway: Cycling News
Sweden team’s Jesper Dahlstrom won the first stage of 2011 Glava Tour of Norway on Wednesday, June 1. The race started in Tonsberg and ended at Larvik.
In the closing kilometres, Sweden team kept the race under control and Dahlstrom powered across the finish-line comfortably ahead of Daniel Holm Foder of the Glud & Marstrand-LRO team.
Jesper Dahlstrom took a total of 4 hours, 6 minutes and 16 seconds to cover a distance of 173.2 kilometres.
After finishing the race, Daniel Holm told the media, “I thought I'd taken this sprint, but opened a little early. I went to when it was 150 meters to the top, but did not completely. But even if it did not win, I am very pleased with this opening, because
this is the best international location I have ever had, beating Veger Robinson Bugge NTB shortly after admission.”
Veger Robinson Bugge of Joker Merida team finished third while Andreas Frisch of Concordia Forsikring – Himmerland team grabbed fourth spot with the difference of 5 seconds behind Jesper.
Bjorn Tore of the Plussbank Cervelo team was also in good form, but he grabbed 10th place with a difference of 11 seconds.
With 71.1 kilometres, the group of three riders made their first break, Johan Svensson (Sweden), his team-mate Lars Andersson and Jasper Bovenhuis (Rabobank Continental team).
All of them gained an advantage of three minutes, but Johan Svensson took the first sprint ahead of two riders.
When the race entered in Svarstad, Lars Andersson made his speed and managed to take a second sprint of the race. In the last 28.5 kilometres, Stian Remme attacked the riders and managed to gain four points and won the third sprint of the race.
In the final circuit, Sparebanken Vest and Ridley team’s Christopher Steven proved too fast for the others and took the final sprint.
Jesper Dahlstrom finished safely in the front group to clinch leader's jersey, while Lars Andersson took a sprint classification ahead of Johan Svensson. Stian Remme of Joker Merida team won the mountain classification with 6 points ahead of Christopher
Stevenson.
The next stage will start in Skien and end in Drammen. All the riders will cover a distance of 172.6 kilometres.
