Jesse Huta Galung, Marsel Ilhan advance to the main draw – US Open 2011
Jesse Huta Galung defeats Antonio Veic 6-0, 6-1
World number 160 Jesse Huta Galung of the Netherlands dismissed world number 182 Antonio Veic of Croatia in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 in the final round of the qualifying draw at the US Open in New York. The Dutch dropped only one
game in the entire match, sealing it 6-0, 6-1 in just 57 minutes.
Huta Galung crushed the Croatian in the first set as he did not lose even a single game, breaking him three times to clinch the set 6-0. The Dutch delivered a single ace and 60 percent of the first serves, capturing 67 percent
of the points on them in the opening set. Huta Galung returned brilliantly as he grabbed an incredible twelve of the sixteen first return points and converted all the three break points he received on Veic’s serve in the first set.
The Dutch carried his form into the second set as he allowed Veic to win only a single game and broke him twice to capture the set 6-1. The right-handed grabbed 75 percent of the first service points and 50 percent of the second
service points in the second set.
Huta Galung will take on world number 63 James Blake in the first round of the main draw.
Marsel Ilhan beats Lukas Lacko 6-3, 6-2
Turkish Marsel Ilhan, ranked 101st in the world, cruised past world number 162 Lukas Lacko of Slovakia in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to qualify for the main draw at the US Open. The match lasted for an hour and fourteen
minutes.
Ilhan and the Slovakian won their serve in the first six games, equalising the score at 3-3. The Turkish did not lose any game after that, breaking Lacko in the eighth game and winning three straight games to grab the set 6-3.
The six feet and three inches tall delivered three aces and kept his first serve percentage at 64 percent, converting fourteen of the sixteen of them into points in the opening set.
The Turkish took an early lead in the second set as he broke Lacko in the opening game and consolidated on it, building a 2-0 lead. Ilhan broke again in the fifth game and held his following service game to take a 4-2 lead. The
Turkish served out the set in the eighth game, winning it 6-2. Ilhan hit one winner and won both break points he received on Lacko’s serve in the second set.
The 24-year-old will face world number 179 Frank Dancevic in the opening round of the main draw.
