Jesse Huta Galung rallies past Michal Konecny to enter round two – Copa Sevilla 2012 CH
Dutch veteran, Jesse Huta Galung, needed three sets to triumph over Czech Republic’s Michal Konecny at the Copa Sevilla 2012 on Monday. He summed up a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 victory against the Prostejov resident to secure a place in the second round at this ATP
(Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event taking place in Seville, Spain.
The 26-year-old displayed brilliant tennis to oust Konecny in two hours and five minutes. Encountering each other for the first time, Huta Galung convincingly advanced into the round of 16 at this outdoor clay court event taking place from 8th
to 15th September.
Huta Galung made quick in-roads at the Real Club de Tenis Betis. He smoothly plucked his entire serves without facing any real challenge. The Dutch broke Konecny’s serve in the fifth game to take the initial lead. He then availed another break chance in
the last game, eventually sealing the opener by winning six games to three.
The world number 336 got in action in the following set. He blocked the only breakpoint he faced to keep his entire serves. Konecny got the breakthrough in the ninth game and pulled out the equaliser with a 6-4 win.
Ranked 276th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Huta Galung re-gained his strength in the final set. He broke the Czech’s serve in the second game and leaped to a 3-0 lead. After Konecny plucked his serve in the fourth game,
the Dutch bagged the last three games and clinched the decider with a breadstick.
The Haarlem native struck seven aces and availed four of 12 break chances to steal the show. He clobbered a lower first serve share of 51 per cent in contrast with the Czech’s 57 per cent and amazingly availed 31 out of 35 points on it.
Next up for Huta Galung is the conqueror of the match between top seed, Roberto Bautista-Agut, and the Argentinean challenger, Facundo Arguello.
The third seed, Federico Delbonis, faced a bitter reality. He suffered a 2-6, 2-6 loss at the hands of the Spanish challenger, Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol, in 68 minutes.
