Jesse Levine gets rid of Vasek Pospisil in quarterfinal – Knoxville Challenger 2011
American qualifier Jesse Levine outperformed fifth seeded Canadian Vasek Pospisil in the quarterfinal of the Knoxville Challenger 2011.
The two clashed against each other on indoor hard courts of the University of Tennessee’s Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA and after one hour and twenty five minutes American Levine got the better off fifth
seeded Canadian Pospisil by ousting him in straight sets of 7-5, 6-4 on Friday the 11th of November 2011.
Although both the sets were bagged by Levine, he clearly dominated the second set. Nevertheless, Levine had managed to hit 73 percent of his first serves on target and accomplished 72 percent of his first service points in the
match. Moreover, he managed to save 75 percent of his breakpoints won and capitalized on three out of seven breakpoints in the whole match.
Pospisil had decided to initiate the opening set and both of the players bagged their respective service games. Once more the two again held their serves and the score had tied at two games each at the end of the fourth game.
However in the fifth and the sixth game, Levine had managed to reel off straight two games to take a mini lead of 4-2 with a hold of serve and by capitalizing on a break. In subsequent two games, the players once more bagged a
game each and the score had shifted to 5-3 with Levine leading the set. However, in the following two games Pospisil had managed to mitigate the deficit and equalized the score at five games each at the end of the tenth game.
The game could’ve titled either way but it was a lucky break for Levine when the fifth seeded Canadian double faulted in the eleventh game. As Levine held his serve, he managed to clog the opening set with a 7-5 victory to go one
up in the match.
During the second set of the match once more both the players held their respective serves in the first two games and eased themselves on the scoreboard at 1-1. It was in the third game that Levine capitalized on a breakpoint and
then held his serve in the following game to scoop two successive games. By the end of the fourth game the score had shifted to 3-1 with Levine leading the set.
From there onwards, the players kept bagging their service games for the following four games and the score had shifted to 5-3 at the end of the eighth game with Levine leading the set. In the last two games, each player once more
bagged a game each and in doing so; Levine had managed to secure a berth in the semi final of the event where he will be facing Mirza Basic.
