Jesse Levine qualified for the quarter-finals – Moselle Open 2012
Left-hander Jesse Levine qualified for the next round after outstanding win 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 to the German veteran, Michael Berrer, in the second round of the Moselle Open 2012 held at the indoor hard courts of France. The duo summed
up the match in a total of one hour and 35 minutes on Thursday.
Ranked 123rd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Berrer, held his initial serve in the opener but had to encounter sheer pressure by the American professional. He squared down the score line to 2-all
in the fourth and 3-all in the sixth game. Levine secured the lead in the series by breaking his rival’s serve in the seventh game, bringing the scores to 4-3. Although, the German struggled hard to upset, he received a 6-4 loss in the end.
The second set reversed the winning order and the 32-year-old German secured the lead by breaking his higher ranked rival’s serve. Levine was unable to defy the stress and kicked off a sloppy start. Berrer took advantage of the
situation, clinching the initial three games, topping the score line with 3-love. The American seemed vulnerable in front of his competitor and gave up the set, facing a 3-6 loss.
Both the players manifested 64 percent initial serve presentation. The American professional pocketed away 11 of 18 first and five of 10 second serve points. His opponent fired five aces, securing 13 of 18 first and eight of 10
second delivery points. From the two serve breaks presented to him, he capitalized only one.
In the decider, Levine made a strong comeback and he broke the German senior’s serve throughout. He bravely marched forward and won all the games without facing any resistance, in the end he marked his win with a 6-0 win.
Berrer had a higher initial serve accuracy of 87 percent, but he was could just convert two of the 13 points. On the other hand, Levine had a 63 percent initial serve precision, he attained nine of 12 first and four of seven second
serve points.
For the next round he will be facing the top seeded, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
