Jesse Levine stuns Rik De Voest in 2nd round – Knoxville Challenger 2011
Third seeded South African Rik De Voest lost to unseeded American Jesse Levine in the second round of the Knoxville Challenger 2011.
The two opponents combated against each other on indoor hard courts of the University of Tennessee’s Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. It took Levine only fifty six minutes to whitewash the third seeded South African in straight sets
of 6-0, 6-2 on Thursday the 10th of November 2011.
Levine had taken on an assertive style of play and he powered through the first set while, setting the tone for the second. The American had an outstanding service game as he managed to target 80 percent of his first serves and had bagged an ostentatious
92 percent of his first service points won during the initial round of the match.
Moreover, he not only had a great service game but also an exceptional return which assisted him in attaining a walloping 62 percent of his total return points in the opening set. In addition, his defence did not falter once, and he did not allow a single
breakpoint opportunity for his adversary and instead, capitalized on three breakpoints won.
Voest had decided to commence the initial round of the match as he had won the service toss and he got off on the wrong side as he was unable to hold his service game. On the contrary, Levine had capitalized on an early break in the first and the third game
to reel of four straight games against his opponent and placed himself on the scoreboard with a lead of 4-0 at the end of the fourth game.
Levine had powered through the remaining set by not only bagging his service games but also his opponent’s. During the last two games, the American was quick to capitalize on the third break point and scored two successive games to clog the opening set with
a bagel set victory.
During the second set Voest again tried his luck at opening the set and this time he was able to hold his service game. Following behind was Levine, who too held his service game and placed himself on the scoreboard at 1-1. In subsequent two games, the players
once more bagged a service game each and at the end of the fourth game the score had tied at two games each.
It was in the fifth game that Voest’s forehand shot went wayward and he presented his rival with a game. On the other hand, Levine had taken a mini lead with a hold of serve and break and at the end of the sixth game the score had shifted to 4-2. The American
once more repeated the feat and sealed his victory of the match.
Levine secured a place in the quarterfinal of the event where he will be facing fifth seeded Canadian Vasek Pospisil.
