Jesse Levine to represent Canada in future – Tennis News
World number 104, Jesse Levine, will soon be applying to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to allow him to represent Canada in future, as it has been confirmed by Tennis Canada.
Tennis Canada's director of communications and marketing, Louis-Philippe Dorais, shared that they were after Levine for a long time and have found success now.
He said, "He's been on our radar for a while. But now it's pretty much for sure he'll be representing Canada from now on."
Levine used to play as an American national in the past but things would get changed in the coming months. He was born in Ottawa but shifted to USA at the age of 13 years. According to ATP‘s website, he currently resides in Boca
Raton, Fla.
Canada’s tennis is already on a rise and Levine’s inclusion will give a further boost to that. The 25-year-old will be second highest ranked tennis player of Canada. The world number 13, Milos Raonic, is at the top of the list
of players from his country. Ranked 125th in the world, Vasek Pospisil is the Canadian number two at the moment.
Levine’s services will be crucial for Canada in the Davis Cup competition. Canada is drawn to face the top team, Spain, in the first round of the World Group in February next year. However, Levine would be unable to represent Canada
in that tie.
About Levine’s eligibility to play for Canada in the tie against Spain, Dorais said, "It's just a matter of timing. As far as will he be eligible to play Davis Cup for us in February, probably not. But for the rest, it's pretty
much a formality that he'll be representing Canada from now on."
Levine will take part in the first Grand Slam of next season, the Australian Open, on the basis of wild card entry. He earned that by winning the U.S. Tennis Association playoff, beating Robby Ginepri in straight sets 6-0, 6-2,
6-1 in the final.
The 5ft 9in tall will be aiming to reclaim his position in the top-100 players of the world. His career best ranking is 69, which he attained two months back.
