Jesse Ryder's selfishness led to New Zealand’s defeat in 3rd T20I, claims Craig McMillan – Cricket News Update
Former New Zealand cricketer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 on Jesse Ryder’s shoulders. The former Kiwi international claimed that it was selfishness of Ryder, who wanted to score a half-century
that led to the downfall of the Black Caps in the 3rd and deciding T20I match of the series.
McMillan vivisected his compatriot’s performance and said that Ryder put his own benefit ahead of the team’s, when he slowed the scoring rate to get to his third T20I fifty.
Terming such a ploy dangerous to the team’s cause, McMillan while speaking to Radiosport said, “The reason http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JD-Ryder-c1679 was trying to get one run for his 50. It's always
dangerous when you put yourself ahead of the team and I think that's what Jesse Ryder did last night.”
New Zealand were chasing a target of 166 runs to win the three match T20I series, started their innings in blazing fashion, with openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Nicol-c2331 putting on an opening stand of 65 runs from six over.
The Kiwis had the upper hand for most part of the match but they faltered near the end. When Ryder got out in the 19th over, New Zealand still required another eight runs to win, with five wickets in hand and they had seven
deliveries to achieve the target. However, South Africans kept things tight in the final over and walked away with the trophy.
The 35-year-old McMillan admitted that other cricketers could have also sealed the series but in the eyes of former cricketers, the major culprit remained Ryder, who after doing all the hard work failed to see the side through.
He said, “Yes, the others had opportunities to win the game in terms of Franklin, [Tim] Southee, [Doug] Bracewell, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NL-McCullum-c2120, will all be disappointed they didn't bring New Zealand home. But the reason that New Zealand were put
in that position last night was because of Jesse Ryder's selfishness in trying to get to 50.”
The Kiwis lost the T20 series but they have a chance to redeem themselves in the One-Day International series which stars from Saturday, February 25 with a game at Westpac Stadium, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864.
