Jesse Ryder to be accompanied by psychologist for IPL – Cricket News Update
New Zealand batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JD-Ryder-c1679, who took an indefinite break from cricket owing to his involvement in a drinking incident earlier this year, will be making a return to cricket and playing for the Pune Warriors, in the company of his manager Aaron Klee
and clinical psychologist Karen Nimmo.
Ryder was involved in a drinking session with teammate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. In addition to consuming alcohol while recovering from injuries,
both players were also involved in a verbal altercation with a bar patron.
Both were handed a one-match ban for their team’s final ODI against the Proteas (which the Black Caps went on to lose, conceding a humiliating 0-3 series defeat), and Ryder was also dropped from the squad for the subsequent Test series. Following the incident
(not Ryder’s first brush with controversy), the 27-year-old announced that he would be taking an indefinite break from cricket, and even bowed out of Wellington’s Plunket Shield match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northern-Districts-c825.
Recently, after a period of recovery, it was revealed that he will be making his comeback to cricket during the 5th season of the Indian Premier League which begins on April 4, in which he is due to play for the Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Cricket (NZC) chief executive David White confirmed that Ryder has “reached the point where he is ready to play competitive cricket again,” adding that the IPL would be a good first step for the troubled batsman as he charts his way back to the
cricketing world.
Psychologist Karen Nimmo was similarly optimistic.
“Jesse has been making steady progress over the past few weeks,” she confirmed. “While the IPL has clear challenges, and is a big step, I believe he’s ready to take it.”
“Cricket is Jesse’s job and what he’s good at, so I was keen to see him return to the game as soon as practical, but only with the right structures in place.”
Ryder’s manager Klee also confirmed that the all-rounder was eager to get back to the game.
“Jesse is desperate to perform on and off the field, and get his career back on track,” he said.
