Jesse Williams and Brittney Reese to join the field at Millrose Games – Athletics news
Jesse Williams and Brittney Reese have confirmed their participation in the 105th edition of the Millrose Games, at The Armory, in New York City, on 11 February, 2012.
Jenny Simpson, another world champion from Daegu in the 1500 metres category, will also be a part of the meet. Allyson Felix, a three-time world champion in the 200 metres category, has confirmed her appearance at the meet. She was recently crowned as the
silver medallist in the 400 metres category and captured bronze medal in the 200 metres category.
Jesse Williams, winner at the World Championships in 2011 in the high jump category, earlier this month was named as the 2011 winner of USA Track & Field's Jesse Owens Award as the country's top male athlete. Williams was able to grab the Diamond Race Trophy
this past season and was entitled as the world leader outdoors, as he recorded a brilliant leap of 2.37 metres.
Williams rose to heights during the 2009 indoor season, as he set a personal best of 2.36 metres and improvised his Indoor personal best of 2.32 metres. Williams had his major achievement at the first Diamond League meet of the year in 2011, where he set
a new meet record of 2.33 metres. Williams was entitled as the holder of first high jump world title for an American athlete in a span of twenty years.
Williams also holds a decent performance at the 2010 World Indoor Championships in Doha, as he finished fifth in the event. The athlete, with an indoor personal best of 2.36 metres, surely will look to emboss one more brilliant finish at the upcoming event.
Brittney Reese, winner of second straight World Outdoor title in the long jump category at Daegu, will be joining the women's category in her respective discipline. Reese will have a keen eye on defending her title at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul,
Turkey, in the upcoming year.
In 2011, she grabbed honours of becoming the World leader in Outdoor event, as she took a magnificent leap of 7.18 metres, at the U.S Championships in Eugene. Her score was better with a difference of 14 centimetres from the season's best jumper.
