Jesse Williams and Brittney Reese to line up for Millrose Games, New York City
Two American athletes, Jesse Williams and Brittney Reese, have decided to participate in the Millrose Games, to take place at the Armory in New York City USA. The event, which will observe its 105th edition next year, has been planned for Saturday,
February 11.
Williams, the formidable high jumper, who is to celebrate his 28th birthday this month, was regarded as the world’s number two in outdoor competitions last year.
The strenuous athlete, who happens to be the reigning world champion, has jumped about 53 centimeters above his own height. For doing so, he was placed among the top 20 high jumpers of the world.
The American athlete has been a favourite for a number of contests, lately. This year alone, besides bagging the World Athletics Championships title, he claimed the Samsung Diamond Race Trophy.
The previous season also observed him emerging as a world winner for escalating himself up to 2.37m in the outdoors competitions.
The other prestigious awards that have been named to the splendid performer include this year’s USA Track & Field’s Jesse Owens Award.
Moreover, the impeccable jumper, who boasts of a 2.36m personal best for the indoor contests, finished for a fifth place in last year’s World Indoor Championships, in Doha.
On the women’s side, the local side will be represented by Brittney Reese in the Millrose Games. The 25-year-old, who was a prominent performer in the 2008 Summer Olympics and who also claimed this year’s World Athletics Championships, will contest the event
title in the long jumps.
Reese is a habitual stunner since the beginning of her international athletics career. She was the winner of the NCAA outdoor championships for the years 2007 and 2008.
The young girl’s remarkable personal best, marked in Eugene, stands at an impressive 22 feet and 9.75 inches. It was this performance of hers that led the girl to represent the US in the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing, China.
Contesting the Olympics, the American athlete could only land at 6.76m (a fifth place performance in the final), which significantly improved a year later, in Belen, to 7.06m.
The new stride placed the girl third on the list of all-time best American performers. The only two athletes who could observe a better finish than her were Marion Jones and the veteran, Jackie Joyner Kersee.
The American athlete’s plans for 2012 include defending her world indoor title in Istanbul, in the World Indoor Championships that will commence in March.
Besides this duo, the other outstanding athletes to feature in the Millrose Games are Jenny Simpson, the girl who won the World Athletics Championships gold medal in the 1500m contest, along with Allyson Felix, the three times world champion over the distance
of 200m.
