Jessica Carty wins the 2012 Irish Girls Close Championship
The 2012 Irish Girls Close Championship is over with Jessica Carty wining the trophy. The Championship was held in the picturesque Waterford Golf Club and was attended by a large crowd.
Jessica Carty was tagged as a winner early in the Championship. Her performance in the semifinals caused many experts and fans to predict her win in the final.
She faced Mary Doyle from The Heath. The match was exciting and despite the best efforts from Doyle, Carty won with a score of 3 and 2 in her favour.
The other participant of the final was Olivia Mehaffey from the Royal County Down Ladies Golf Club. She was on top of her game after beating Niamh Ward on the 19th hole in the semi-finals.
The final started with Mehaffey taking an early advantage over Carty. Mehaffey played a great game and was 2 up on the fifth hole. This lead caused many fans to change their opinion about the winner. Carty played good on the 10th hole and won it.
With this win, Carty came half way up her trailing score and hoped to even Mehaffey’s lead. Mehaffey won the 11th hole by the par and again established her lead.
Both players struggled on the 12th hole and the result was halved between both the players. In the retrospect, this was the point when things started to look well in Carty’s favour.
The match swung in her favour, leaving Mehaffey to struggle unsuccessfully to contain Carty.
The 13th hole was won by Carty who played a great putt. Mehaffey tried hard at the next hole and appeared to make a comeback. With the hole divided equally between the two, Mehaffey had a hope of recovery.
Carty dashed all hopes on the 15th hole where she scored an eagle. The magnificent performance sealed Mehaffey’s fate and the Carty appeared to be the winner. At this point, Mehaffey had a very slim hope of a draw.
Carty shot a birdie at each of the next holes and won the game. The match was really exciting and Jessica Carty won a truly justified victory.
