Jessica Davenport, Sue Bird: Top WNBA players from 5th July games – Part 1
On Tuesday, three games took place in Women National Basketball Association (WNBA). In the first game of the night, Indiana Fever won their fifth consecutive game with a 78-61 victory over Seattle Storm at Conseco Fieldhouse. Indiana
held a 42-27 lead at half time and did not trail during the entire second half.
At Allstate Arena, the Chicago Sky beat Washington Mystics by 78-65 to snap their three-game losing streak. It was the second straight defeat for the Mystics, who shot just 21 of 54 from the field and 1 for 13 from the three-point
range. Chicago held a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter and outscored Washington 20-12 in the second quarter to put the game out of their reach.
In the last game, Phoenix Mercury defeated Los Angeles Sparks 101-82 at US Airways Center. The win marked Mercury’s second consecutive triumph and the Spark’s fifth straight loss on the road. Phoenix trailed 50-42 at halftime but
played well the second half to outplay the visiting team by 59-32.

Indiana Fever vs. Seattle Storm
Jessica Davenport
Jessica Davenport played for almost 31 minutes and finished with a team-high 15 points, seven rebounds, four blocks, three assists and two steals in Fever’s win. The 26-year-old player scored 11 of her points in the second half
and ended with 7 for 11 performance from the field.
Tamika Catchings
Tamika Catchings pinned 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals for Indiana.
Shavonte Zellous
Shavonte Zellous did not contribute in double figures like Davenport and Catchings. However, the 24-year-old star scored all of her eight points in the crucial fourth period when Seattle were surging and had trimmed an 11-point
third quarter’s deficit to just six points, 58-52, early in the quarter.
Sue Bird
Sue Bird punctuated a game-high 21 points in Strom’s defeat. The four-time WNBA All-Star knocked down 5 of 6 three-pointers and shot 7 for 9 from the field overall, dominating the court for 34 minutes. Bird also dished out five
assists and grabbed three rebounds. She scored eight of her points in the third quarter as Seattle cut the 15-point first half deficit to 11, 58-47.
Swin Cash
Swin Cash was another bright spot in the Storm’s loss. Cash, who was WNBA All-Star MVP in 2009, chipped in with 13 points and four rebounds while going 5 for 9 from the floor, including 3 for six from the three-point range.
