Jessica Davenport, Tanisha Wright, Sylvia Fowles: Top WNBA players from July 21 games
Two games took place in Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) on Thursday, July 21, 2011. In the first game, Indiana Fever bounced back from their two-game losing streak and moved into first place in the Eastern Conference with a 77-63 win over Chicago Sky.
Seattle Storm, on the other hand, topped San Antonio Silver Stars 73-55, snapping their three-game losing streak. Let us review the outstanding contributions made by players in the two games played on the evening:
Indiana Fever vs. Chicago Sky
Jessica Davenport
Jessica Davenport came off the Fever bench and scored a team high 20 points in 24 plus minutes. The player also added five rebounds and three assists on the night. Davenport scored 15 of her points in the crucial second half as Fever broke away. She went 6 for 13 from the field and 8 for 10 from free throw line.
Tamika Catchings
Veteran small forward Tamika Catchings also played a key role in Indiana’s win. The nine-time WNBA All-Star scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists.
Tangela Smith
Fever forward centre Tangela Smith also had a contribution of 10 points, three rebounds and two steals in nearly 24 minutes.
Sylvia Fowles
Sylvia Fowles punctuated a game high 21 points and blocked two shots in Chicago’s seventh consecutive defeat against Indiana. The 25-year-old centre scored 12 of her points in the first half. Fowles, who is averaging 20.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game so far in this season, shot 9 for 11 from the field and 3 for 5 from the charity stripe.
Erin Thorn
Erin Thorn went 5 for 12 from the field on her way to 15 points in nearly 25 minutes of action. The player also had five assists and three rebounds in the losing effort.
Seattle Storm vs. San Antonio Silver Stars
Tanisha Wright
Tanisha Wright converted 7 of 11 on her way to 17 points in Seattle’s victory. The player also pulled down 3 rebounds, dished out three assists and stole the ball for three times.
Swin Cash
Swin Cash racked up 15 points for Seattle and narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds. The three-time WNBA Champion shot 5 for 10 from the floor, including 4 for 6 from three-point range, and 4 for 6 from free throw line.
Camille Little
Seattle forward Camille Little scored 10 points, grabbed four rebounds and also dished out two assists in a span of nearly 27minutes.
Sophia Young
Sophia Young had 12 points, three rebounds and three steals for the Silver Stars, but her team high score could not save Silver Stars from the loss.
