Jessica Hardy and Chloe Sutton win Women’s events - Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions
Jessica Hardy and Chloe Sutton won gold medals in the Women’s events on day four of the 2011 Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions. The final day of the meet concluded after the events of Women’s 100m butterfly, 1500m freestyle, 100m
back-stroke and the 100m breast-stroke.
The session started with the Women’s 100m butterfly, where Troj-CA’s Jessica Hardy dominated her way to the finishing wall for the gold medal, by reporting in a wonderful time of 59.32 seconds. She was followed by her team-member and strongest competitor,
Lyndsa De Paul, who finished her swim in a second fastest time of 59.38 seconds for the silver medal. They were followed by Whitney Myers of Fast-CA, who reached the podium after securing a bronze finish, by clocking a time of 59.99 seconds. Myers was only
0.38 seconds away from third position holder and touched the wall in a fourth best time of 1 minute and 00.37 seconds.
Next was the 1500m freestyle, where MVN-CA’s Chloe E Sutton out-performed her following swimmers with a prominent distance. Sutton was comfortably ahead of her subsequent swimmer and touched the wall for the gold medal, by posting a time of 16 minutes and
12.73 seconds. Kate Ziegler and Emily A Brunemann of Fast-CA followed her on the podium as the second and third fastest distant freestyle swimmers, by touching the wall in a time of 16 minutes and 17.21 seconds and 16 minutes and 22.09 seconds, respectively.
The third event of the session was 100m back-stroke, where New Zealand’s Melissa Ingram occupied the crown of the event. Ingram was 1.18 seconds faster than her closest competitor, Genevie Cantin of Canada and claimed the gold medal with a timing of 1 minute
and 02.10 seconds. Cantin touched the wall for the silver medal behind Ingram, clocking in a time of 1 minute and 03.28 seconds. They were followed by Katy Murdoch of UCSC, who proved her eligibility for the bronze medal, by producing a time of 1 minute and
03.35 seconds.
Moments later, Yuliya Efimova of UN-CA improved her timing by nearly two seconds to pocket the gold medal of the 100m breast-stroke. She touched the wall in a fastest time of 1 minute and 06.97 seconds. Jillian Tyler of Minn-MN and Kayl Voytechek of UA followed
her on the podium for the silver and bronze medals, by submitting a time of 1:07.87 and 1:11.07 minutes, respectively.
The winners were awarded awards and accolades for securing podium finishes, whereas, they also received a huge round of applause from the audience, who acknowledged their beautiful swims.
