Jessica Hardy captures Women’s 100m breaststroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Jessica Hardy of USA captured gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on initial day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Saturday, October 20.
The American swimmer showed no mercy to her opponents in the four-lap breaststroke discipline and proved her mettle for the title.
She remained in a comfortable lead over her opponents throughout the discipline and ensured her place on top of the victory stand for gold medal.
With her astonishing efforts, she enjoyed a two-body length lead over her closest opponent and cruised her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 04.58 seconds.
The gold medallist was trailed by Mio Motegi of Japan, who remained 1.80 seconds behind and occupied silver medal of the race by ending her swim in a time of 1 minute and 06.38 seconds.
Motegi was chased by Rie Kaneto of Japan, who stayed 0.14 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing blockade as third position holder with an effort of 1 minute and 06.52 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was obtained by Sophie Allen of Great Britain, who stayed 0.45 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and settled on the wall by clocking a time of 1 minute and 06.97 seconds.
Allen was chased by Vanessa Grimberg, who stayed 1.15 seconds slower from her and posted a time of 1 minute and 08.12 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth spot of the race was secured by Caroline Ruhnau, who was only 0.11 seconds slower and ended her race in a time of 1 minute and 08.23 seconds.
Similarly, Ruhnau remained just 0.04 seconds ahead of Kathryn Johnstone of Great Britain, who ended her swim in seventh place by touching the wall in a time of 1 minute and 08.27 seconds.
Johnstone was trailed by Corrie Scott of Great Britain, who remained full body length slower from her former finisher and concluded her race in a time of 1 minute and 09.31 seconds.
In addition, Hardy was contented with her gold claiming effort in the race and received medal after the session.
