Jessica Hardy claims Women’s 50m breaststroke gold: Day two – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Jessica Hardy of Trojan Swim Club earned gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke on day two of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Friday, May 11.
The 25-year-old Hardy faced strong competition from Rebecca Soni throughout the single-lap event but with her intellectual efforts, she succeeded in securing gold medal of the event.
With her epic start, she went full throttle towards the finishing blockade and touched the wall with the timing of 30.82 seconds for the crowd of the event.
Her title-claiming effort remained just 0.04 seconds faster from her team-member, Rebecca Soni, who finished her swim in second best place by clocking a time of 30.86 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Molly Hannis of Tennessee Aqua-S, who was only 0.99 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 31.85 seconds.
Hannis was chased by Micah Lawrence of SwimMAC Carolina, who remained 0.32 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 32.17 seconds for fourth position.
After a while, the crowd witnessed a gruelling effort of Barry Murphy in the Men’s equivalent event. The 26-year-old Murphy devastated hopes of his challengers and reached the finishing end for gold medal.
With his notable efforts, he remained just one stroke ahead of his following swimmer and posted a time of 27.81 seconds for gold medal.
His gold winning effort was trailed by NY Athletic Club’s Gangloff, who stayed 0.08 seconds slower and emerged on the medal rostrum for silver medal by posting a time of 27.89 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by John Criste of Trojan Swim Club, who secured bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 28.09 seconds.
Fourth position of the event was secured by Brendan Hansen of Longhorn Aquatic, who stayed 0.05 seconds apart and completed his race in a time of 28.14 seconds.
In addition, Murphy was very excited with his praiseworthy efforts in the 50m event and stated that he will try to impress his fans at 2012 London Olympic Games.
