Jessica Hardy clinches Women’s 50m breaststroke title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Jessica Hardy of USA clinched gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke on day two of the final stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Sunday, November 11.
The American swimmer dictated terms to her opponents in the 50m discipline and ensured her place on top of the victory stand for gold medal.
She showed no leniency to her opponents in the shortest breaststroke discipline and occupied the title.
With her invincible efforts in the breaststroke discipline, Hardy enjoyed a lead of full body length and surfaced on the finishing wall for the crown by producing a fantastic time of 29.96 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Rebecca Ejdervik of Sweden, who was 0.56 seconds behind and reached the victory stand for silver medal by touching the wall with a nice effort of 30.52 seconds.
Ejdervik was traced by Sarah Katsoulis of Australia, who stayed 0.07 seconds away from overpowering her former finisher and clocked a wonderful time of 30.59 seconds for third position.
Katsoulis remained only an inch ahead of her following swimmer and completed her swim in fourth best place by hitting the wall with a timing of 30.62 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Samantha Marshall of Australia, who was 0.54 seconds behind and proved her eligibility for fifth position by producing an effort of 31.16 seconds.
Similarly, Marshall was chased by Amelia Dahlitz of Australia, who suffered a loss of 0.32 seconds from her preceding swimmer and ended her race in a time of 31.48 seconds.
Dahlitz was followed by Sophie Allen of Great Britain, who was 0.15 seconds slower from her former swimmer and ended her race in seventh place by clocking a time of 31.63 seconds.
Allen enjoyed an advantage of only 0.01 seconds over Rie Kaneto of Japan, who was unable to make any improvement in her qualification time and posted 31.64 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Hardy was happy with her fastest swim and articulated that she would continue her efforts and try to achieve the same in future events.
