Jessica Hardy excels in Women’s 100m freestyle heats: Day four – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Jessica Hardy of Trojan Swim Club excelled in the qualification rounds of Women’s 100m freestyle on final day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Sunday, May 13.
The 25-year-old Hardy continued her winning streak on the final day of the championship as she went one step closer to clinching another gold medal by dominating the prelims of 100m event.
With her fantastic start, she gained a comfortable lead over her challengers in the start. She continued her efforts in the second lap of the event and hit the finishing wall for first position by posting a nice time of 54.72 seconds.
Her fastest qualification effort was chased by Lia Neal of Asphalt green-MR, who elevated her efforts in the second half of the race and remained just 0.02 seconds slower from her, clocking a time of 54.74 seconds.
Her second best qualification struggle was chased by Erika Erndl of T2 Aquatics-FL, who stayed nearly two strokes slower from her over the finishing blockade and posted a time of 55.07 seconds.
The 33-year-old Erndl was chased by Dana Vollmer of California Aquatics, who was 0.21 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing wall with the timing of 55.28 seconds.
Fifth best qualification spot of the race was secured by Natalie Coughlin of California Aquatics, who was only 0.20 seconds apart and hit the wall with the timing of 55.48 seconds.
Coughlin was chased by Megan Romano of Athens Bulldog-G, who was just two strokes behind and entered the final round as sixth best finisher with an effort of 55.72 seconds.
Similarly, the 21-year-old Romano remained marginally faster from Amanda Weir of SwimAtlanta-GA, who tapped the finishing end with the timing of 55.74 seconds for seventh position.
Last qualification spot of the race was secured by Madison Kennedy of SwimMAC Carolina, who ended eighth by posting a time of 56.05 seconds.
In addition, these qualifying swimmers will confront each other in the final round where the position holders will be receive medals and accolades for their exhausting efforts at the medal ceremony of the championship.
