Jessica Hardy occupies Women’s 50m freestyle gold: Day eight – 2012 US Swimming Olympic Trials
Two-time world champion, Jessica Hardy dominated the playoff of Women’s 50m freestyle on final day of the 2012 US Swimming Olympic Trials in Omaha on Monday, July 2.
The 25-year-old Hardy wasted no time and upset her rivals by occupying the top spot in her main event. With her alluring efforts, she stayed prominently ahead of her opponents and paved her way to the top of podium for gold medal.
She continued her thrilling pace throughout the single lap event and reached the finishing end with the timing of 24.50 seconds for gold medal.
Her title-claiming effort remained 0.23 seconds ahead of Kara Lynn Joyce, who followed her on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 24.73 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Christine Magnuson, who stayed only 0.05 seconds apart and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 24.78 seconds for bronze medal.
Following that, the audience witnessed notable efforts of Dara Torres, who finished fourth in the event and failed to book her spot on the American team to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Torres was just 0.04 seconds slower from securing third position of the event as she hit the finishing end with the timing of 24.82 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Madison Kennedy, who remained 0.28 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 25.10 seconds.
Kennedy was followed by Kait Flederbach, who suffered a deficit of 0.03 seconds from her preceding swimmer and settled on the finishing end as sixth position holder with the timing of 25.13 seconds.
Subsequently, Flederbach was trailed by her teammate, Margo Geer, who was 0.13 seconds behind and managed to secure seventh position of the 50m discipline by clocking a time of 25.26 seconds.
Last spot of the race was secured by Lara Jackson, who remained just a stroke apart and made her way to the finishing wall with the timing of 25.42 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, the crowd was contented with Hardy’s immaculate effort in the 50m event and is eager to see her do the same at the upcoming Olympics.
